Promotion and development of the ICT sector in ACP

Objectives of the project

  • Promote and support business opportunities in the sector if Information and Communication Technologies in order to encourage further growth and private sector development in the ACP countries.
  • Bring together the major actors invilved in the ICT, e-business and related sectors in East Africa and the Indian Ocean as well as in Europe to allow conclusion of cooperation agreements and inter-entreprises investments
  • Strengthen the capacity of Intermediary Organisations with a view to promoting investment and technology transfers for companies belonging to the ICT sector.


Approach implemented

  • Profiling of most adapted target participants and relevant projects
  • Development of sector studies for the 14 relevant countries
  • Implementation of a network of experts and consultants in Europe and the ACP countries
  • Identification and mobilisation of ACP and EU participants
  • Mobilisation of Institutions (policy decision-makers), Intermediary Organisations (Chamber of Commerce, professional organisations, Investment promotion Agencies) international financial institutions and ACP regional organisations
  • Design and delivery of thematic seminars and training sessions to national intermediary organisations in order to develop their capacity to assist their members for the preparation or their participation to the event
  • Organisation of promotional activities : website, newsletter, brochures etc.
  • Overall organisation and monitoring of Nov@tech 2008 - The ICT Africa Marketplace in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, form 13 to 15 February 2008, with 315 participants for 42 countries, 3 plenary sessions, 6 thematic workshops
  • Organisation of 750 BtoB meetings leading to 70 Partnership Memoranda for future collaboration between companies, organisations and European and African Institutions
  • Organisation of a Nov@tech delegation to CeBIT in Hanover in March 2008, comprising 15 ACP companies and 5 ACP Intermediary Organisations (preliminary coaching of the participants, logistics, support during business meetings, etc), followed for the Intermediary Organisations by a one-week scholarship in their EU counterparts, aimed at  initiating an exchange of "best practices" to be implemented in their country.
